Happy Mother's Day

I want to extend a warm and heartfelt Mother's Day to every mom out there. I had a great day, personally. Why? Because it was a typical day in my life as a mom. We're talkin' errands, here, people. First, I had a gut busting breakfast at IHOP. I was so grateful not to have had to feign ecstacy while eating a breakfast in bed consisting of lukewarm cheese weiners, cold scrambled eggs, burnt to the point of carcinogen overload toast, and coffee that could grow hair on my chest. Then it was Office Max, Best Buy, and other retail outlets that involved some dire emergency need or another. After that, we went to U of H to visit my daughter in her new apartment. She is soooo proud of her first real independent living arrangement. The way she described it, I was expecting the Buckingham Palace annex. The price tag seemed to suggest that too. But when I opened the door, pushing away cardboard moving boxes with all my might, I was confronted by a space not much bigger than a postage stamp. Basically, it has just enough room for a small bed, a tiny refrigerator with a 2-burner stove on top, a small desk and a tiny bathroom. I had to go aside to change my mind. But she was so proud and had scrubbed it to surgical perfection--twice. The smell of ajax and windex was overpowering. Made me wonder why I had not witnessed such cleanliness in her behavior before. Her room at home was littered with debris, smudged with every conceivable brand of makeup and full of nail, staple gun and tack holes to hold up photos and posters of questionable ethics. I guess that room was just a rental and well, you know... The day was capped off with a thrilling episode of Grey's Anatomy!! I can't wait til tonight for the last hour. Helps ease the pain of seeing Chris booted off American Idol. (I'm still in mourning.) Happy Mother's Day (belated) all!
